AUTOMATED BURNISHING APPARATUS AND METHODFOR BURNISHING THE TERMINAL POSTS OF LEAD-ACID BATTERIESAbstract of the DisclosureA novel burnishing apparatus and method forburnishing the terminal posts of lead-acid batteries isdisclosed. The burnishing brushes are adjustably mountedto service batteries with various terminal posts spacings.After indexing and alignment, each battery to be pro-cessed is located and clamped by a battery processinghead, after which the burnishing carriage which isslideably mounted thereon is moved relatively towards andaway from the battery terminals to bring the burnishingbrushes into contact with the battery terminals to effectthe burnishing operation. The direction of rotation of theburnishing brushes is reversed when the burnishing brushcarriage begins to withdraw away from the battery terminals.
