ABSTRACTA method and apparatus for the quantitative recoveryof solids suspended in a fluid from such fluid involvingcontinuous flow centrifugation. Samples of the fluid withthe particles suspended therein, are simultaneously pumpedfrom a plurality of source locations into a common chamberwherein they become mixed while being continuously fed thereto.The samples from the mixing chamber flow to a sample splittingchamber from which a portion is diverted to a continuous flowcentrifuge and the remaining diverted to waste. The quantityof mixed sample fed to the centrifuge is determined so thatthe quantity of solids collected in the centrifuge can berelated-thereto. The apparatus includes a plurality of pumpunits, each having a water inlet and a water outlet, a samplemixer consisting of a chamber having inlets thereto for receivingthe water samples from the pump units. The sample mixer com-municates directly with a sample splitting chamber having afirst outlet open to atmosphere and a second outlet downstreamthereof which is connected to the inlet of a continuous flowcentrifuge.
