8 48,125ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREArc heater apparatus using total alternatingcurrent characterized by a pair of axially spaced cylin-drical electrodes forming a narrow gap therebetween andconnected to a first alternating current power source toproduce an arc in the gap, each electrode having magneticcoil means for producing a rotating magnetic field at thearcing surface of the electrodes to rotate the arc, andthe magnetic coil means being connected to a second alter-nating current power source which has an arc current zeroaligned with that of the first alternating current powersource.
