CYTOCHEMICAL AGENTS AND METHODS FOR THE DETECTION OF STEROID HORMONE RECEPTORS IN HUMAN TISSUES

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA cytochemical agent and method for the de-tection and identification of estrogen or progesteronereceptor cells in carcinomas of the breast is describ-ed, involving an estrogen-protein-fluorochrome conj-gate or a progesterone-protein-fluorochrome agent whichis applied to an excised unfixed frozen tissue section,which is then examined for the appearange of fluores-cent dye staining of the cells therein, for evaluationof potential endocrine or hormone therapy of the pat-ient. Additional cytochemical agents and methods forthe detection of other types of hormone receptor cellsin various kinds of cancerous tissue are also dis-closed, using sex hormones and endochrine steroid com-ponents.
