In the art of imprinting machines with variably set print wheels there has been an inability to accept large printing forms. Further, the racks conventionally used to set the wheels are expensive to manufacture. To overcome these problems, a digit wheel assembly is provided for use in connection with a variable imprinting device (10) including a plurality of digit wheels (32); a plurality of thumbwheels (36), being equal in number to the plurality of digit wheels; a first plurality of sprockets (72) equal in number to the plurality of digit wheels, each of the first plurality of sprockets being operatively associated with one of the digit wheels so as to rotate therewith; a second plurality of sprockets (82) equal in number to the plurality of digit wheels, each of said second plurality of sprockets being operatively associated with one of the thumbwheels so as to rotate therewith; and endless flexible drive means (80) connecting each of said first plurality of sprockets to one of said second plurality of sprockets.
