A device for bringing a workpiece into register with two coordinate axes preferably running orthogonally to one another with respect to at least one tool or one tool holder of a machine tool, having a base plate (7) forming a work support surface, at least two displaceable elements (10, 18) on the work support surface (7) for forming at least two adjustable work bearing surfaces (31, 32), of which the first element (10) is displaceable in the first coordinate axis and the second element (18) is displaceable in the second coordinate axis, and also measuring devices allocated to the displaceable elements (10, 18) for indicating the respective position of the work bearing surfaces (31, 32) relative to an initial position of these bearing surfaces, a mark being provided in the area of the work support surface (7) in order to adjust the device with respect to the tool or tool holder. The novel feature of the invention lies in the fact that the first element (10) is guided at either end with guide pieces (14, 17) on two side faces (7') of the base plate (7) which extend in the direction of the first coordinate axis and run parallel to one another, that the second element (18) is displaceably mounted on the first element (10) and is supported against a lateral boundary surface (10') of the first element by a lateral boundary surface extending in the direction of the second coordinate axis as well as transversely or orthogonally to the work support surface (7) and forming a guide surface, and that the measuring device allocated to the second element (18) indicates the displacement of this second element (18) relative to the first element (10).
