process for the production of hydrocarbons with a high share of c amp; amp; darr; 2 amp; amp; darr; to c amp; amp; darr; 4 amp; amp; darr; olefins and oxygenated compounds

Hydrocarbons and oxygenated cpds. are produced by contacting a CO- and H2-contg. gas at a temp. of 220-340 degrees C and a pressure of 1-60 bar with a catalyst contg. Mn or a combination of =50 wt.% Mn and 50 wt.% Fe, the catalyst having been activated by treatment by CO and then H2 or with a mixt. of CO and H2 at a temp. 10-50 degrees C higher than the initial temp. necessary for obtaining optimum activity. The products contain a high proportion (e.g. 60-90%) of 2-4C olefins, useful as starting materials in the petrochemical industry, as well as 2-4C alcohols and aldehydes.
