The root crop harvester has crop heading and lifting tools, the heads and/or roots being transferred to a trailer towed beside the harvester. The transfer conveyor is supported by a frame attached to the side of the harvester, and is coupled with a drive on it. For road transport, the transfer conveyor frame may be coupled to the rear of the harvester or to a second tractor. The conveyor frame has swivel mounted wheels, their shafts being supported in bearings in the frame. The conveyor may be an auger, belts or chain elevator.
