The information system uses a television set or TV monitor (1) to output information. The information is transmitted in digitally coded form as a broadcast videotex signal in one or more TV channels, via cables (5) or in wireless fashion. The programme selection device and HF part (4) of the TV set (1) are used to select and demodulate the TV signal, and a broadcast videotex demodulator (6), which is familiar in itself, is provided for synchronisation and regeneration of the received digital signals. Specified parts of a bit sequence (e.g. about 7 Mbit/s) to be transmitted, which contain the code for a picture number or picture address, are continuously tested in an address interpretation circuit (7) to determine whether they correspond to the picture number or picture address specified in an address spectifying memory (8). If the result of this test is positive, specified quantities of following data are temporarily stored in a temporary memory (9), from which this data is passed at a reduced transmission rate to a broadcast videotex decoder (2), which is familiar in itself, for further processing.
