Use of a varnish to apply a protective layer to plaster or plastic swabs, in particular denture models

Protective lacquer for application to plaster or plastics stumps, esp. denture patterns, contains 22-30 (25.95) (wt.) pts. acetone, 34-42 (37.45) pts. ethyl acetate, 25-32 (28.80) pts. collodion cotton in a concn. of 65% in 2-PrOH, 5-6.5 (5.35) pts. silicone oil as 10% soln. in xylene, 1-2 (1.45) pts. Al pigment paste and 0.8-1.5 (1.00) pts. Ag powder. Only the pts. needing protection during further treatment need be coated, in contrast to the electroplating technique, which wastes material. The drying time of the lacquer is ca. 15 s and the total cure time ca. 5-20 min.
