A safety interlock switch ensures that the neutral electrode of a h.f. surgical instrument is correctly connected as the electrode is applied to the patient. When the fixing strap (2) is applied to the patient, a stud (4) is pushed through a hole (3) in the strap and the moving part (5) of the switch is pulled against a coiled spring (12). This closes a circuit between contacts (7,8) and hence to the neutral electrode (1).
