A tape drive shaft, tone control head, and tone erasing head of a video tape cassette recorder are mounted in opposition to a tape unwinding and a tape winding reel and w.r.t. a rotary head. The recorder comprises two tape applicator gears, one carrying a pressure roll, compressible against the tape drive shaft. The roll is intended for pulling out the tape from a cassette and looping it about one side of the rotary head. The other applicator gear carries a pull-out pin for the magnetic tape and is used for application of the tape on the other side of the rotary head. The latter lies between the winding and unwinding reels and the tape drive shaft. The applicator gears rotate in mutually opposite directions for application of the tape round the rotary head, past the tone control head and the erasing head, using the pressure roll and the pull-out pin.
