Sheet asphalt prepn. plant - charges aggregate fractions from hot silo pockets directly or through superheater in mixers

Asphalt cement is prepared by storing the dried aggregates in separate compartments for each size range in a hot silo at a temp. of 160-200 deg.C. They are passed in metered batches through a superheater for raising the temp. to 220-380 deg.C and into the mixer. A bituminous binder, filler and any other required admixtures are added at this stage. This facilitates the conversion from asphaltic concrete with voids which needs compacting, to sheet asphalt which is free from voids, and saves time. It reduces the heat losses and the wear to a min.
