Screw tapping machine with shaft frame - has spindle rotated and axially moved via gear drive on drive shaft rotated by power cylinder axial movement
The screw tapping mechanism comprises a frame (10) carrying a rotatable drive shaft (22), which receives its input from a double-acting power cylinder (20) etc. to rotate and axially move the spindle (30) carrying the tap. The shaft (22) is not axially movable and carries rollers (24) which engage an internal helix (26) in a bush (14). The latter is axially movable by an actuator (20). The spindle is rotated by the shaft via spur gears (28,30), and the rotation causes its axial movement by an externally screw threaded bush, keyed to its upper end engaging an internally threaded bush (36) held in the frame. These two bushes are preferably interchangeable to accommodate taps with different thread pitches.
