Work-roll changing wagon for rolling mills - where wagon has levers actuating clamps to grip roll journals

The wagon can be driven in a direction parallel to the axes of the work-rolls, and has pivot mountings for clamps employed to grip the journals of two work-rolls, so the latter can be simultaneously drawn out of a rolling mill stand. Two clamps (I) are pref. joined together to make a roll carrier, which is located on pivots on the wagon and can be adjusted vertically by a jack. On the roll carrier is a set of levers driven by another jack to move two other clamps (II), so the roll journals are clamped against two semicircular recesses in the roll carrier; and semicircular recesses are pref. also provided in the bottom surfaces of clamps (II). Used esp. to remove the work rolls from 4-high mills, but the wagon can also be used with 2-high mills. This provides a simpler, less expensive, and more reliable device than the wagon described in an earlier patent 1913771.
