The hand grip has an elastic strap fitted with a slide at each end to be secured to the car. The strap ends are guided between parallel faces in the fittings and have cut-outs on each side gripped by retaining pegs (49) to prevent the ends from coming out too far. Friction pads (54) are positioned in the slides to retard the extension of the strap. The friction pads are dome-shaped and easily fitted to the guides on either side of the strap. They prevent a sudden extension of the strap position and dampen any sudden jerks on the grip.
