The device is intended for earthing appts. and instruments in hospitals. It consists of a floor-mounted socket (10), carrying at least one post (11,12) holding a cable (30) connected clamp (31). All these components are made of conductive material and are conductively interconnected. Preferably the post(s) is formed by a tube, whose upper aperture (44) is suitable for plugging-in a part of the clamp. The cable may be secured to the upper post part, inside which may be mounted a weight, e.g. suspended in the reversing loop of the cable whose length may be twice that of the post. The socket has castors (25) for moving on the floor (B). It may have a castor on one side only, the other one having a brake foot (26).
