Auxiliary block for extracting ash particles and heat - from large capacity coal-fired water boiler fumes

An auxiliary block for a large-capacity coal-fired water boiler has an elongated sheet metal casing at the side of or above the boiler body and parallel to the main boiler axis. The block is substantially the same length as the boiler and contains one or more rows of filters, pref. cyclone separators, for removing ash particles from the exhaust fumes and discharging them at one end of the block. Above or laterally of the filters the block may also include a set of exchanger units, esp. tubes, for extn. of heat from the fumes and forming part of an air preheater/economiser/vaporiser etc. The unit uses available space effectively in converting boiler plant from oil to coal firing, or for new plant. The filters and exchange tubes are readily withdrawable for examination or replacement.
