The display counter contains a cooled lighting system located in a non air-conditioned dry part. At least a part of the lights are accommodated in a closed channel system which is transparent in the lighting direction and is connected at the inlet side to a cooling system so that cooling air passes into and flows through the channel system. The lights are now cooled on all sides thus also reducing the direct convection heat and preventing condensation from forming on the lights. Where an air-conditioned wet part is also incorporated in the counter where the shelves themselves are cooled the channel system for the lights can be connected at the inlet side to the cooled shelves.
