The machine has a rotary support arranged around which are gluing label-supply and label-transfer stations. One the support are removal members which cooperate with these stations. The gluing station comprises a rotatable gluing roller, a glue applicator member and a doctor blade. Associated with the gluing roller or the removal members are spray heads for supplying water or other medium for keeping the glue fresh or thinning the glue during idling periods, thus preventing build-up of crusted glue and obviating friction problems which might arise if the roller and/or removal members became completely dry. A control device employs sensors connected to a control unit, which controls a main drive motor.
