The card holder is designed to be used in sets, so as to retain cards of a standard size. Each holding element is a moulded plastics strip (10) with a flange (11) projecting at the bottom, with a cross-piece (12) at its free end. This cross-piece is attached to the wall or surface by e.g. adhesive. About a third of the way up, another flange (15) extends at right angles, and about two thirds of the way up is an upper flange (14). The holding element can then be mounted one above the other and so overlapping that the bottom flange of an upper element rests on the top flange of the one below, held in contact by the resilience of the elements. A card can then be inserted between the overlapping parts. The top flange has projecting lugs (14a), which engage serrations along the bottom edge of the cards.
