The hanger assembly (1) is intended partic. for pipelines, thus holding a sliding load. It comprises a main spring (5), coaxially surrounding a secondary spring (20) which absorbs the tensile and compression forces due to variations in the main spring action transmitted to the secondary spring via angled rigid levers (40,41). The latter rotate on a fixed pivot (39) and are provided with rollers, thus maintaining constant main spring action . The ends of each lever which engage the respective springs (5,20) are guided, e.g. by guides (18,33) for the rollers carried at their ends. The guide slot (19) for each main spring roller may be parallel to the spring axes, whilst the slot (32) for each secondary spring roller is at right angles to these axes.
