A test standard for use in summary accuracy testing of multiple coordinate measurement equipment has several measurement points accurately positioned and distributed in a measurement point plane. It enables reliable evidence to be obtained regarding the measurement accuracy whilst exercising the equipment in at least three degrees of freedom. The test standard (1') has at least two different measurement point planes (6',7',8) inclined w.r.t. each other and fixed in position w.r.t. each other. The planes can be mutually perpendicular and each corresp. to a spatial direction. Different measurement points are defined within the measurement planes by bodies of different geometrical structure (12 to 16) mounted on or inset into the walls forming the planes. Measurement points in any plane differ in distance from a reference level associated with that plane.
