The light sources of the illuminated garment can be actuated by the user in several operational modes. The illumination system is integrated into the garment (1) in such manner that only the various light sources (2) are visible through garment apertures (3). Pref. the latter, together with the light sources, lie along a garment seam (5). The apertures may be located in a sewn-on patch strip (4), under which the electric wires may be laid. Light transmitting diodes are typically used as the light sources, possibly of various colours. They may be pulsed and may form several groups with time-offset operation, using a delay element. One group may be associated with each body side, and the groups may form letters, symbols, or images.
