The motor with slip-ring rotor has a housing (10) containing starting resistances (11) and a change-over switch for switching from the starting mode to the normal mode in which a rectifier cascade is used for motor regulation. The change-over switch uses a switching roller (17) extending parallel to a switching roller (12) for stepwise switching of the starting resistances (11), each roller (12,17) associated with a respective stepping motor (14,18) on the outside of the starter housing (10). The starter housing (10) is oil-filled. The incorporation of the change-over switch within the starter housing removes the need for wiring between them.
