Preheated coal charging of coke ovens - by scraper conveyor filled with coal after each charging operation

A system for charging of coke oven chambers with preheated coking coal uses an endless scraper conveyor in an enclosed trough. After the completion of every charging operation, the conveyor is not stopped but continues to run until the entire trough is again filled with preheated coal. Pref. in the charging station, the level of the preheated coal is kept constant by a level control of the feed star wheel. An endless scraper chain conveyor takes the preheated coal to the breeches pipe with the shutters to fill the oven chambers. This ensures that all charging gases are displaced from the trough and no explosive mixtures can remain. The costly conventional flushing with inert gas before every charging operation is now saved.
