The electrical switch with an overload cut-out is of the type for mounting on a conductor rail, and incorporates arc extinction blades. The overload cut-out has an armature mechanism with a coil (13) enclosing an armature (21) with a magnetic core (22) adjacent to it, on a rod (23) through the middle. On overload, the armature slides along the rod towards the core, moving the rod so that its head (24) strikes a contact arm (15) and moves a contact (16) away from a fixed contact (17). At the outer end of the armature is a permanent magnet (26) with a disc of thermomagnetic material (27) and a heat conductive disc (32). As the temp. rises, these discs ensure that the armature is released sooner by a high overload current. Alternative auxiliary magnets are available.
