Waste gas contg. S and N oxides is passed through a bed in which catalyst comprises active carbon opt. supporting a metal oxide filled so that both the N and S oxides are simultaneously removed. Ammonia is pref. adsorbed by the catalyst so when it is contacted with the waste gas, both S and N oxides can be simultaneously removed at up to 200 deg.C. Preheating of waste gas is not required.
