The cutting tooth protrudes downwards on a device for tearing up bituminous coatings, tarmac surfaces and frozen ground. It is fitted as an auxiliary appliance on an excavator for laying pipes, or other purposes. The tooth is mounted on the cantilevered arm of a hydraulic excavator. The tooth (5) has a wedge-shaped cutting edge, and is pref. made of spring steel, and sloping rearwards at an angle of 15 deg. from the vertical. A sliding guideway can be incorporated on the underside, and the tooth can be supported by a wedge (7) at the rear.
