The agricultural bale forming machine which forms cylindrical bales, has a chamber divided into two halves, each half incorporating three endless belts, all six arranged roughly in a circle. Three belts are attached to a fixed frame (3) and the other three are attached to a frame (4) which is swung upwards to release the completely rolled bale. The uppermost belt (11) of the swinging half is braked when the bale is released. The axis (5) of the driving pulley (23) for this belt also forms the axis about which the plate (7) forming part of the swinging frame tilts. The outer strand (33) of the belt is then swung against a resilient braking strip (29) on one arm (28) of a bracket (27) mounted on the adjacent fixed plate (6). The interior surface of this outer strand is then pushed against another braking surface (36) of a block (35) mounted on the swinging frame.
