The method of measuring torques acting on shafts involves the use of a magnetic field generated by a coil and acting axially on the shaft and contacts tapping an electrical voltage proportional to the torque from the surface of the shaft. The method uses the Wiedemann effect. An alternating magnetic field is applied. Its amplitude is so large that the magnetic hysteresis is driven into the saturation region. The method may also be used in determining the associated force. In which case the excitation coil (2) carrying an alternating current is wound around the windings of a spiral spring (20) subjected to the measurement force (k) along its longitudinal axis.
