Large screen projection system - uses array of overlapping segment projectors with back projection on multi-screen

The separate projectors are CRT units (R) which project separate segments of the image via Schmidt optics (O) onto a multi-layer screen (P). The separate images overlap at the edges to form a complete large format image with a min. of structure. The optics can incorporate shutters to control the relative illumination of the segments. Separate light monitors on each segment are linked to a combined control so that an even picture illumination is obtained. The projection system is able to cover a complete colour range with controlled intensity and is simpler to drive than a large array of LEDs or incandescent lamps, in which the spaces between the elements provides an interfering structure.
