The vacuum pump on a vehicle consists of a housing (1) in which is a shaft (4) carrying two rotor portions and chambers separated by a ring gasket (7). The first chamber (5) is connected into the engine oil pressure circuit to act as a hydraulic motor. The second chamber (6) operates as a vacuum pump or an air pump. This system allows the device to be assembled in any type or make of vehicle inside the engine compartment close to where it is required without any alteration to vehicle body design.
