The mechanism is intended for rectifying a scythe or sickle blade or the like by hammering whose cutting edge has become deformed through use preventing sharpening by whetstone. It comprises a base frame (1,2) with fixture (3-5) for a power drill and an eccentric (9) with a shaft (10) for fixing in the drill chuck. Rotation of the shaft moves a spring-loaded (20) pivoted (14) lever (13) up and down to bring a contoured (26) hammer head (25) down on to an anvil (27,28). The blade edge is moved to-and-fro between hammer and anvil.
