Socket pipe for adhesive joint has internal bulge - tapering in all directions round part of cup periphery

On the inner face of its socket cup a socket pipe has a bulge whose height above the main face surface decreases steadily in both axial directions from the bulge centre line, and whose height in both peripheral directions decreases in like manner from the transverse centre line over an angle up to about 90 deg. The axial width of the bulge decreases proportionally with its height. The centre of the bulge may have a flattened area several mm wide. Injection moulding appts. is also claimed, with a core indented to correspond with the bulge. Used esp. for adhesively bonded pipe connection. Since the bulge is round only part of the socket periphery, mfr. by injection moulding instead of blow moulding is possible. The cylindrical section of the socket keeps the joint components properly aligned while adhesive is setting.
