The mechanism is intended for grinding hack-saw or like blades. It comprises a frame (1) on which a carriage (4) is longitudinally movable. The carriage is provided with blade clamps (25) and a longitudinal tooth rack for step-wise feed synchronised with the operation of the grinding unit (48,49,51) above the carriage. The carriage is provided with a longitudinally extending guard (3), arranged below the blade clamps to cover all the moving parts to protect these from grinding dust. A second tooth rack may mesh with a pinion driven for fast return and proximity limit switches may be provided.
