Pressurised water reactor has in addition to the prim. cooling circuit a second coolant supply which can in emergencies produce a spray curtain over the reactor core. This additional coolant supply has an outlet at the apex of the domed cover and is joined to a high-pressure feeding system of boronated cooling water, e.g. to the vol. control system of the prim. cooling circuit. Pressure can be reduced within a short time.
