The mechanism raises and lowers a working platform and has two or more rows of scissor levers hydraulically actuated by toggle levers (2). The latter support the platform (7), whose position is determined by cross-members (8) and belts (9) running round guide pulleys (10) and wound on drums (11). The movement of the toggle levers can be synchronised by gears and transmitted by a shaft, and there may be a brake holding the drums in the rest position. A hydraulic motor can be used to hold the belts taut on extension and to determine the re-winding speed. It is supplied by a hydraulic pump or actuator.
