One fixed arm at right angles to a shaft, and another, parallel to the first and movable along the shaft, make up a clamp for use in building, esp. for holding formwork for walls, foundations, lintels, beams and similar. The two arms are each made in two pieces. The first piece is seated on the shaft, and the second is mounted on it so as to be extensible and retractable. Both pieces have aligned clamping faces facing the other arm. The first piece can be at least partially of U-shaped cross-section, while the second is correspondingly rectangular. Grip length can be varied, providing continuous close clamping fit over the whole range.
