A lighting control unit is designed for surface mounting and has an inner unit that readily locates in the main housing. The regulator knob (7) locates of the shaft of a potentiometer that adjusts the lighting intensity. The knob is inset into a disc of transparent material that allows the unit to be illuminated by an internal lamp. An internal housing (5) has a top plate that has formed lugs (14) that latch over projections on the base (11) arms. Once pushed together the units are securely retained.
