The system is coupled to a central monitoring station and includes a line monitoring facility capable of detecting a line fault. Signal lines (E1,E2) are coupled to the inputs of line memories (Sp1,Sp2). A common alarm memory (Sp3) serves as a store for the alarm condition to control the display elements (A1,A2). When an alarm signal appears (E1), the time memory is set and the display (A1) is activated and at the same time the central unit (ZE) is signalled. A separate memory (Sp4) is activated to indicate the presence of an alarm condition.
