The tool head has peripherally mounted chipping blades, for working on side segments or edges of a round timber trunk or board led past transversely to the head axis of rotation. They work together with an end circular saw blade rotatably mounted, with drive, in the head. The dia. of the circular saw blade (9) considerably exceeds that of the circle of flight of the leading cutting edges (13) of the chipping blades (4). These edges protrude into a groove (14) running round in a lateral face (15) of the saw blade. They may be pointed. This arrangement prevents pieces of wood from rising, penetrating and/or being jammed behind the circular saw blade.
