Inter active liquid crystal display - records required points upon short-circuit between opposing electrodes in response to applied pressure

The display has a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between two electrode plates, at least one of which is transparent and both carrying orthogonal sets of parallel electrodes (4,5). The transparent electrode plate comprises a flexible foil, which is depressed by externally applied press to bring adjacent electrodes (4,5) of both sets into short-circuit contact. Pref. the required display character is obtained via sequential control of one electrode set and selective control of the other. A sensor (17) responds to a short-circuit occurring during the sequential control of one electrode set to supply a signal to a control device (12) which records the initial coordinate of the short-circuit. The control device (12) is supplied with a second signal from a second sensor (19) in response to a short-circuit during sequential control of the other electrode set, to record the second coordinate of the short-circuit, the control device (12) being coupled to a buffer register (8).
