A constant microwave field is periodically emitted into the oven chamber, the latter being provided with a coupling aperture, covered by a glass-ceramic plate. The plate is secured by a peripheral fastening frame in the oven wall. In the oven is guided a grate, above the bottom coupling aperture for supporting the processed food. Above the grate is mounted a resistive heating element of sheathed heaters. The rods (13) of the support grate (12) extend transversely to the propagation direction of the microwaves in the coupling waveguides (4). The sheathed heaters (2) extend transversely to the support grate rods. The arrangement provides temp. reduction at the fastening frame for the glass-ceramic plate, thus safeguarding its tough service life, as well as protecting the seals under the frame.
