Vertical centrifugal casting machine - where rotor blade or worm feed screw drives melt upwards into rotating mould

A motor is used to rotate a mould on a vertical axis; and an inlet is provided in the base of the mould. The motor is also used to drive a rotor, which is located on the axis of the mould; and a helical blade or worm feed screw is located on the bottom end of the rotor. The motor, mould and rotor are all lowered simultaneously into a crucible contg. a melt, so the latter is driven upwards into the mould by the helical blade or feed screw. Various pref. shapes of helical blade or feed screw may be used, but all have the object of driving the melt upwards into the rotating mould. The feed screw is pref. hollow and filled with a refrigerant. Used for centrifugal casting of ferrous- or nonferrous- metals, glass, polymers or ceramics.
