Potato harvesting machine with endless sieve - has aprons only at sieve edges leaving central part free

The machine for harvesting potatoes and similar crops has an endless driven sieve band of parallel bars joined at the ends by endless belts. Above the top run there are flexible aprons at intervals, their lower edges bearing against it and sloping in the transport direction, so as to retain any tubers rolling rearwards on the band. These aprons (3) are mounted only at the belts of the band (1), leaving the intervening central part of the latter free. They can be inclined from its edges towards the centre and away from the transport direction.
