A central layer, made from wood chips etc., mixed with bonding agent and with holes through it, is provided with outside cover layers, such as veneer, to form a door leaf. The central layer consists of two shell-type panels (2,3) solid in the peripheral area, and partially channelled (6) on one side elsewhere, so as to leave connecting stems (8). These are glued together along their edges and at the stems so that channels interface to form large cavities, closed to the outside. A shaped foil sheet of readily cementable non-split material may be glued between these panels.
