A probe for detecting combustible gases, esp. hydrogen in a nuclear power plant, comprises two detector coils, connected into a bridge circuit and mounted in a housing; a connecting cable leads into this housing and is cast in plastics. The cable leads into the housing (2) through a conventional plug connecter (one component 15 is shown), the embedding plastics (27) is a silicone rubber, and the components (15) of the conventional plug is fixed to a metal plate (23) acting as closure for the housing. Pref. this metal plate (23) is screwed onto the basic housing (2) typically of stainless steel, through which a bore (3) passes; the space inside this bore between the coils (4,5) and the metal cover plate (23) is filled with the silicone rubber (27). Used esp. for detecting the presence of hydrogen in the containment building of a nuclear reactor in a fault case.
