The a.c. mains is connected to a coil and capacitor circuit with a mid-point tapping to the prim. of the transformer. The sec. has one terminal connected to the phase line and the other to a triac. The relay components determine the current flow in the triac. This arrangement reduces the fusing propensities of the relay contacts and increases the lifetime of the starting transformer, as well as making the whole assembly smaller (50/70/15 mm) and easy to install.
