The flame tube of heat-resisting material for burners, partic. oil burners, conventionally has an opening towards the burner, further openings in the sidewalls and a closed downstream end. It (4) is made of material which is a good insulator, and has a low thermal time-constant. Axial distance between, and configuration of, burner nozzle (1) and flane tube inlet-opening (3) are such that the burner jet (2) acts as an injector through the opening. The flame tube end wall (5) around this is flat. Dimensions of, and distances between, inlet- and sidewall-openings (7) are such that the injector effect causes recirculation of part of the gas discharged from the latter.
